    • Details:

      A pair of finely made Bronze Age European fibulae, or brooches, used to fasten one's cloak or cape. Each matching piece is made of a single section of bronze wire of undulating width, finely incised and intricately twisted in spirals, terminating in a long straight pin.
       
      Both fibulae are intact and in an Excellent state of preservation. Stunning blue-green patina. With antique custom oak mounts. Very fine.
       
      Fibulae of this size and quality are a testament to the skill of Bronze Age craftsmen even at this early date and would have been owned by only the highest ranking members of the elite warrior class.
       
      The spiral motif remains central to the Celtic artistic tradition for another millennium. and likely has a religious significance.
       
      Fibulae of this type represent the earliest artwork from the dawn of Celtic civilization in Central Europe.
       
      These outstanding, very rare, matched pair of ancient bronze fibulae are exceptional examples of genuine ancient bronze metallurgy, jewelry and art.
